Here are this morning’s follow-up shots. My book, a Moleskine sketchbook, is on the left. My friend’s book, a Moleskine writing notebook, is on the right. Much to my relief, painting on the thin Moleskine notebook pages was a success!

A few people suggested that I glue several pages together, but I was afraid they would ripple individually with the paint, like a wet book. I chose to thicken an individual page with Daler Rowney FW Pearlescent Ink (color: galactic blue). I coated the front and back of both pages three times, let them dry, then closed the book to rest and flatten for a few hours.

When I paint, I really saturate the pages with ink and water. Occasionally, I wipe off the ink with a cloth or blending it with my fingers. I was surprised that the pages survived the beating. The only accident occurred when I was drawing the minarets (the tall spire structures which surround a mosque). I drew those with a pen nib, which sliced clean through the page. Luckily, with some thick ink application I mended the cut, so no one should notice.

Well folks, there you have it. Moleskine notebook owners can also paint in their journals!
